Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has launched the state’s first outbound air cargo service from Donyi Polo airport.
With “Empowering Farmers, Connecting Markets” as the theme, this service is expected to strengthen the agricultural economy of the state.
It is designed to link local farmers with larger markets and speed up the transfer of perishable goods.
The facility will focus on fruits, vegetables, flowers and other produce that often incur losses due to delays in conventional transport.
The cargo service is expected to reduce wastage and help cultivators secure better prices, particularly in remote districts.
Incidentally, the new cargo service falls under the Centre’s UDAN scheme.
Aimed at expanding air connectivity across the Northeast, this scheme also involves a new terminal at Donyi Polo airport that will be officially inaugurated on 2 September.
