New Delhi: Nearly the entire incentive pool set aside for semiconductor manufacturing in India has already been committed, with only a small portion left to support minor projects.
Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan informed that out of the Rs 65,000 crore fund earmarked for chip production, around Rs 62,900 crore, or 97 per cent, has been allocated.
The amount forms part of the broader Rs 76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission, which also includes Rs 10,000 crore for modernising the Semiconductor Laboratory in Mohali and Rs 1,000 crore for the design-linked incentive scheme.
According to Secretary Krishnan, with the funds already committed, only two or three small projects may still find space within the scheme.
The flagship event, scheduled for 2 to 4 September at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, is expected to draw participation from delegates across 33 countries, along with over 50 senior executives from leading global semiconductor firms.
The government aims to use the platform to showcase India’s progress in building a semiconductor ecosystem and attract further investment into chip design, research and manufacturing.
