Srinagar – The Jammu and Kashmir Government has launched the official website of the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in watershed development across the Union Territory.Â
The portal, ‘iwmp.jk.gov.in’, was inaugurated by Javid Ahmed Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Departments, at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.
The launch event was attended by Commissioner/Secretary, Rural Development Department, Babila Rakwal; Secretary, Information Technology Department, Piyush Singla; and Chief Executive Officer, IWMP, Rajnish Kumar, among others.
Significance of the platform
Dar said the platform will provide real-time updates on watershed interventions, enabling citizens to monitor ground-level progress, track resource utilization, and identify areas for improvement. He noted that rainfed areas in J&K face severe challenges such as land degradation and water scarcity, and the new portal will aid in better planning, monitoring, and execution of projects in these ecologically sensitive zones. He also stressed the importance of small reservoirs for effective water conservation and highlighted the role of digitization in improving governance.
IT Secretary Piyush Singla underlined the role of technology in enhancing public service delivery and interdepartmental coordination. He emphasized the need for dynamic and interactive government websites to keep citizens engaged.
Features of the portal
The portal has been developed under the WDC–PMKSY 2.0 scheme to ensure transparency, accessibility, and real-time information sharing. The website offers access to project guidelines, progress reports, and success stories, promoting evidence-based planning and community participation.
Currently, 19 projects covering 69,493 hectares are under implementation in J&K under the IWMP. The government expects the new portal to enhance efficiency, promote sustainable watershed development, and ensure active involvement of local communities.
