Imphal: The Public Health & Engineering Department (PHED), Manipur, has launched its first-ever online water billing portal for tariff payments, marking a major step towards digital governance and improved transparency.Â
The new system covers Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) areas and Greater Imphal. The portal enables registered consumers and households with water meters to pay their water bills online. It also allows 24×7 access to past bill history and receipts. Multiple digital payment options, instant alerts for new bills and due dates, water conservation tips, and a quick grievance redressal mechanism are included in the platform.
Since its trial run in January 2025, with 50,498 water meters installed, the portal has already generated over Rs 91 lakh in revenue. Officials said the system would reduce manpower needs for manual bill preparation and distribution while ensuring accurate and transparent billing. A new tariff structure based on household water consumption is also expected to be introduced soon. Consumers will be able to apply for new connections online, with a helpline number (080-4567-4629) available for assistance.
PHED Secretary IAS Hungyo Worshang, while addressing the launch, said the initial rollout would focus on IMC and the Greater Imphal areas. He urged residents to approach the Water Supply Maintenance Divisions for new meter installations—Division I at Khoyathong for Imphal West and Division II at Porompat for Imphal East.
