New Delhi: The National Health Authority (NHA) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out e-Sushrut@Clinic in the presence of Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava.
The initiative introduces a lightweight, cloud-based Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) tailored for outpatient clinics and smaller healthcare providers.
This marks a key milestone in expanding the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), launched in September 2021, which aims to create an integrated digital health infrastructure in India.Â
Need for a cloud-based HMIS
The development of e-Sushrut@Clinic stemmed from feedback during the rollout of ABDM microsites, where healthcare providers highlighted the need for a trustworthy, government-backed digital system.Â
With many AIIMS hospitals already using C-DAC’s flagship e-Sushrut HMIS, this lighter version is expected to bring credibility for private clinics and medium-sized hospitals.
Simplified onboarding and key features
Healthcare providers can easily onboard e-Sushrut@Clinic using their Health Facility Registry (HFR) and Health Professionals Registry (HPR) credentials. Those not yet registered can complete the process directly on the platform.Â
The system is designed to keep technical requirements low and allows doctors in both public and private clinics to update patient health records, provide telemedicine services, and manage diagnostics, prescriptions, and billing.
The solution includes modules for outpatient management, pharmacy, and nursing, offering essential functionalities at a low per-user cost. This makes it useful for small clinics, sub-centres, and medium-sized hospitals seeking digital transformation.
Integration with ABDM services
In addition to digitization, e-Sushrut@Clinic integrates several ABDM utilities. One key feature is access to the AIIMS Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for hypertension and diabetes. Offered free to all ABDM-integrated platforms, the CDSS helps doctors improve diagnoses and treatment decisions, thereby enhancing patient care.
Currently, C-DAC’s e-Sushrut software is operational at 17 AIIMS and over 4,000 health facilities across the country. With e-Sushrut@Clinic, the government is extending this trusted solution to private healthcare providers, reinforcing India’s drive toward a secure, reliable, and inclusive digital health ecosystem.
