New Delhi: Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, on 15 September, assumed additional charge as the Governor of Maharashtra, following the resignation of C.P. Radhakrishnan after his election as Vice President of India.
Devvrat was sworn in at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai, where Bombay High Court Chief Justice Chandrashekhar administered the oath of office.
He took the oath in Sanskrit, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, state ministers, senior bureaucrats and other dignitaries in attendance.
The President’s Office confirmed the appointment, stating that Devvrat will discharge the duties of Maharashtra Governor while continuing as Gujarat’s Governor. He travelled from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on Sunday morning with his wife, Darshana Devi, aboard the Tejas Express.
A seasoned educationist with over 45 years of experience, Devvrat has a long record of public service.
He earlier served as Governor of Himachal Pradesh from August 2015 to July 2019, where he championed natural farming, cow protection and breed improvement, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, social harmony, addiction eradication, tree plantation, and water conservation.
Since his appointment as Gujarat’s Governor in July 2019, Devvrat has led the state’s efforts to promote natural farming, encouraging over five lakh farmers to shift away from chemical-based practices.
His initiatives have influenced similar moves in other states, aligning with the Centre’s drive to scale up sustainable agricultural methods.
