New Delhi: The central government has reopened the application window for the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme targeting white goods such as air conditioners and LED lights, citing strong market growth and rising industry confidence from earlier rounds of the programme.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, applications will be accepted from 15 September to 14 October. Both new applicants and existing beneficiaries seeking to expand investments can apply, provided they meet the scheme’s guidelines.
The ministry said the decision reflects the “appetite of the industry to invest more,” driven by the growing domestic market and the success of manufacturing key components of ACs and LED lights in India under the current scheme.
Launched in April 2021 with a total outlay of Rs 6,238 crore, the PLI scheme for white goods is being implemented over seven years, from FY 2021-22 to FY 2028-29. So far, 83 applicants have been approved with committed investments of Rs 10,406 crore.
These investments are expected to boost local production across the value chain, including components that are not currently manufactured in sufficient quantities within the country.
Officials emphasised that the initiative continues to strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem by reducing import dependence and encouraging domestic production of critical components for air conditioners and LED lighting products.
