Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government signed a license agreement with Continental Hospital, Telangana, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Bastar.Â
The agreement was formalized at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal.
Focus on Accessible Healthcare
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo stated that the state government is committed to providing world-class health facilities to every citizen, including those in remote tribal areas. He stressed that the new super specialty hospital in Bastar will particularly benefit soldiers stationed on the Naxal front, who earlier had to be airlifted to Raipur for critical treatment.
Expanding Beyond Raipur and Bilaspur
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal noted that advanced medical services were previously limited to Raipur and Bilaspur. With the establishment of the Bastar hospital, such services will now be available locally. He assured full support from the Health Department to strengthen facilities further and ensure delivery at government-approved rates.
Investment and Infrastructure
According to the Health Secretary, the project was developed at a cost of Rs 200 crore, with Rs 120 crore funded by the Central Government and Rs 80 crore by the State Government.Â
The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) also contributed significantly to the project’s development. Spread over 11 acres, the 10-storey hospital will house 240 beds and specialized departments, including cardiology, nephrology, neurosurgery, urology, and gastroenterology.Â
It will also feature advanced OPD, ICU, and emergency care units, supported by a team of specialist doctors.
Regional Impact
The hospital will cater not only to residents of Bastar but also to patients from across Chhattisgarh and neighboring states. Officials and public representatives described the initiative as a historic milestone in the state’s healthcare journey, expected to deliver advanced treatment to lakhs of people at affordable costs.
