New Delhi: The Delhi government will inaugurate 75 public welfare projects on September 17 as part of the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ initiative, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The projects cover infrastructure for senior citizens, visually impaired students, and persons with intellectual disabilities, reflecting a focus on social welfare and inclusive development.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens’ Home in Paschim Vihar will be among the projects inaugurated. Built at a cost of Rs 10.64 crore, the facility can house 96 residents and will provide medical care, meals, hygienic accommodation, and recreational opportunities for the elderly. Alongside this, the Atal Drishti Girls’ Hostel near Timarpur, developed at a cost of Rs 13.42 crore, will accommodate 96 visually impaired students. The hostel has been designed with barrier-free infrastructure and support services to enable academic and personal growth.
Another significant project is the Atal Asha Home in Narela, constructed for Rs 40.60 crore, with space for 220 residents. The facility is aimed at providing rehabilitation, care, and vocational training for individuals with intellectual disabilities. According to officials, the naming of the facilities after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is meant to underline the focus on welfare-driven initiatives.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to inaugurate 15 of the projects, including the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens’ Home, the Atal Drishti Girls’ Hostel, and the Atal Asha Home, at an event at the Thyagraj Stadium. The launch highlights the government’s approach to targeted welfare infrastructure in the capital.
