Mumbai: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced plans to spend Rs 380 crore to build a multi-speciality hospital block and bone marrow transplant (BMT) centre at the Tata Memorial Centre’s (TMC) Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Navi Mumbai.
The 11-storey facility, being constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), will be one of the largest BMT centres in the country. The new block will serve around 1.3 lakh outpatient department (OPD) visits annually, perform over 600 BMT procedures each year, and include 60 beds.
The project, funded through NSE’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, will have a built-up area of 2.4 lakh square feet. It is expected to begin operations by July 2027. The NSE Foundation has partnered with the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH)-established ACTREC for the project, following board approval in March 2023.
NSE managing director and chief executive Ashishkumar Chauhan said the initiative aims to strengthen healthcare support for cancer patients and their families while contributing meaningfully to India’s fight against cancer. He added that the project is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of patients every year.
TMC director Sudeep Gupta said thousands of patients are currently waiting for BMT treatment across the country. He added that the new hospital block would fill a critical gap in specialized services for managing comorbidities such as cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, renal, and gastroenterological conditions in cancer patients. Until now, ACTREC has functioned as a standalone cancer center, forcing patients to seek treatment for other ailments elsewhere.
The upcoming facility is expected to greatly enhance integrated cancer care and improve patient outcomes nationwide.
