New Delhi: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Tuesday to discuss key developmental priorities and ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating the Himalayan state’s growth.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting through a post on social media platform X.
The discussion comes ahead of the PM Modi’s expected visit to Sikkim later this month, during which he is likely to inaugurate several new projects. The Governor’s meeting follows last month’s discussion between Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and the Prime Minister, which focused on post-disaster restoration efforts following the recent floods and landslides that caused widespread damage in the state.
Chief Minister Tamang had sought enhanced central support for rebuilding critical infrastructure and improving road connectivity, particularly along National Highways NH-10 and NH-310A — key routes linking Sikkim to the rest of the country. He had also renewed his invitation to the Prime Minister to visit the state towards the end of November, after an earlier visit in May for the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
The back-to-back meetings between the Governor, Chief Minister and the Prime Minister highlight a renewed focus on Sikkim’s long-term development, resilience planning, and infrastructure modernisation as the state works to recover from recent natural calamities.
