Dimapur: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 14 November inaugurated the AI Centre for Excellence for Skilling at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC) in Dimapur, alongside Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton.
During her Nagland visit, she inspected several key facilities, including the Automobile Workshop, the Training Block and the Agro-based Rural Technology units, and interacted with students, faculty members and institute officials.
Sitharaman said the central government continues to accord “top priority” to the North East in areas such as infrastructure, investment, skill development and digital connectivity. “North East has been kept at the centre of policy when you are looking at development, skill, investments,” she said.
While launching the AI & Future Skills Centre of Excellence at NTTC, she highlighted two major initiatives driving the region’s technology readiness, a tie-up with the Tata group in Kohima to train youth in semiconductor technology and a collaboration with the CYIENT Foundation in Dimapur to introduce AI-enabled manufacturing and 3D printing.
These programmes, she added, are designed to equip the youth of Nagaland with the skills required for modern job roles and enable them to contribute to India’s expanding technology ecosystem.
