New Delhi: IPS Nachiketa Jha, a 2003-batch officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), Government of India.
In this role, he will work closely with the National Security Advisor and be involved in key aspects of India’s internal and external security policymaking.
Before moving to the Centre, Jha served as the Home Secretary of Uttar Pradesh from December 2024. He earlier held several senior field and supervisory roles, including Inspector General of Police for the Meerut Range from March 2023 to December 2024 and earlier for the Agra Range. During his tenure in Meerut, he was known for dealing with sensitive law and order cases firmly and professionally, earning respect within the force and the administration.
Jha also brings experience from the central deputation. Earlier in his career, he served as Deputy Director in the Intelligence Bureau. His background in intelligence gathering, internal security, and policing is expected to strengthen the NSCS, which plays a crucial role in coordinating national security policies across ministries and agencies.
The Union Home Ministry has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to relieve Jha immediately so that he can take charge at the NSCS. His appointment is seen as a significant addition to the national security establishment.
