Kolkata: The West Bengal government has decided to rename its job-guarantee scheme Karmashree after Mahatma Gandhi.
This Karmashree program was ruled out by the state in 2024. It has, to date, provided 101.5 crore person-days of work to more than 90 lakh job card holders.
This program guarantees a minimum of 50 days of work per annum to rural households.
The Karmashree program is entirely funded by the West Bengal government.
The state government has also disbursed the pending NREGA wages amounting to Rs 6919 crore to the 58-lakh odd labourers from its own resources.
