New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a roundtable with leading Indian artificial intelligence start-ups at his residence, ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 scheduled to be held in the country next month.
Twelve AI start-ups selected under the Foundation Model pillar of the summit participated in the discussion, showcasing their work across areas such as Indian language and multilingual foundation models, speech and video generation, generative AI for 3D content, advanced analytics, engineering simulations, and healthcare diagnostics.
Startup leaders underscored India’s fast-evolving AI ecosystem, noting that global innovation and deployment in artificial intelligence is increasingly gravitating towards India due to a supportive policy environment and strong digital infrastructure.
Highlighting AI’s transformative potential, the Prime Minister said India aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the global technology landscape through the upcoming summit. He emphasised that Indian AI models should be ethical, transparent, privacy-focused and reflective of local languages and contexts, while being globally relevant.
The meeting was attended by representatives from companies including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Sarvam and Tech Mahindra, along with Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and MoS Jitin Prasada.
