Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed IAS Kumar Prashant as the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission.
He is a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Before this appointment, Kumar Prashant was serving as Special Secretary in the state Home Department. He brings wide administrative experience to his new assignment, having handled key responsibilities across several districts and departments in the state.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Kumar Prashant holds a B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering. Over the years, he has served as District Magistrate and Collector of Badaun, Fatehpur, and Chandauli. He has also worked as Chief Development Officer of Gorakhpur and as Additional Commissioner of Commercial Tax in Noida. His tenure in these roles focused on strengthening governance and improving service delivery at the ground level.
In the state secretariat, he has held the post of Special Secretary in the Agricultural Production Commissioner Branch. In October 2023, he was appointed Director of Social Welfare, Uttar Pradesh, and Managing Director of UPSIDCO, Lucknow. During this period, he worked on welfare initiatives and supported industrial growth in the state.
Known for a people-focused approach and calm leadership style, Kumar Prashant is expected to bring efficiency and transparency to the State Information Commission in his new role.
