New Delhi, March 31 (APAC Media): In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle at the Centre, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of IAS Chanchal Kumar as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B).
Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
IAS Sanjay Jaju, previously Secretary, Ministry of I&B , has been in turn appointed as the new Secretary of Ministry of DoNER. He is a 1992 batch officer of the Telangana cadre.
A 1992-batch officer of the Bihar cadre, Kumar brings with him over three decades of administrative experience across key sectors. As the secretary of Ministry of DoNER, he played a crucial role in driving infrastructure growth and enhancing connectivity in the North Eastern states.
During his tenure at DoNER, Kumar oversaw several strategic initiatives aimed at accelerating regional development through improved road networks, logistics, and inter-state connectivity. His leadership was instrumental in aligning infrastructure expansion with broader economic objectives in the region.
Kumar has also held prominent positions at the central level, including serving as Managing Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) between 2022 and 2023. In this role, he was closely associated with the implementation of highway and infrastructure projects in challenging terrains.
In addition, he briefly served as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 2023. Earlier in his career, Kumar worked as Director/Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Railways, gaining diverse experience across sectors.
