New Delhi, June 1 (CXO Media): Nvidia has expanded its AI strategy beyond data centres with the launch of RTX Spark, a new chip designed to bring advanced artificial intelligence capabilities directly to laptops and desktop computers.
Announced at Computex 2026 in Taiwan, the chip combines CPU and GPU functions and is designed to run AI agents locally on devices instead of relying heavily on cloud infrastructure. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the technology is intended to support a new generation of AI-powered computing experiences, where software agents can perform tasks across a PC with minimal user input.
The RTX Spark chip was developed in collaboration with Microsoft and MediaTek and is expected to be adopted by major PC manufacturers including Dell, Lenovo, Asus and HP. The companies plan to integrate the chip into Windows-based devices launching later this year.
The launch highlights a growing shift in the AI hardware market as chipmakers look beyond data centres and target personal computing. Running AI workloads locally could improve privacy, reduce latency and lower dependence on internet connectivity for certain AI functions.
Nvidia’s move also increases competition with Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and Apple, all of which are investing heavily in AI-focused processors. Intel recently unveiled its upcoming Xe3P GPU architecture, which the company says is built to support AI agents and next-generation AI workloads.
While Nvidia remains the dominant supplier of AI infrastructure chips, the company is now positioning itself to capture a larger share of the emerging AI PC market. The success of that strategy will depend on how quickly businesses and consumers adopt AI-powered personal computers over the next few years.
