Kolkata, July 16 (APAC Media): The Centre has appointed IAS Rajesh Pandey, a 1995 batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, as the Chairman of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment for a five-year term.
He will hold office from the date he assumes charge or until superannuation, whichever is earlier.
Pandey is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the MSME and Textiles departments of the West Bengal government.
During his administrative career, he has also handled key portfolios, including Sports and Cooperation, gaining extensive experience in governance and public administration.
IAS Rajesh Pandey succeeds the interim arrangement under which NTPC Chairman Gurdeep Singh was holding additional charge of DVC from June 1, 2026.
The Centre’s decision comes as DVC advances major infrastructure and energy projects aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and meeting growing power demand.
The corporation is responsible for power generation through thermal, hydel and solar projects.
It also oversees flood control, irrigation and water resource management across the Damodar Valley region in Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The PSU also plays a key role in regional infrastructure and socio-economic development.
IAS Rajesh Pandey administrative experience is expected to support policy coordination, faster project execution and institutional governance.
Established in 1948 under the Damodar Valley Corporation Act, DVC remains one of India’s leading public sector organisations in the power and water resources sectors.
