New Delhi, 20 August (APAC Media): The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched an interactive digital platform, ‘Get Solar in 60 Secs’, to simplify the adoption of rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The initiative comes as the scheme has enabled more than 50 lakh households to generate their own electricity in just over two years since its launch.
Personalised Solar Estimates in Minutes
The new platform is designed to streamline the consumer experience by providing quick estimates on system requirements, costs, and financial benefits of installing solar systems.
Users can enter basic details, including their name, phone number, state, and district, followed by their previous month’s electricity bill and sanctioned load. Based on this information, the platform estimates the ideal solar plant capacity for a household.
It also provides details on the estimated installation cost, government subsidy eligibility, available bank loans, applicable interest rates, and potential lifetime savings. In addition, users can access a curated list of verified vendors empanelled under the PM Surya Ghar scheme and directly call or connect with them through WhatsApp.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Goals
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 29, 2024, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana aims to support one crore households in installing rooftop solar systems and receiving up to 300 units of free electricity per month.
The scheme targets 30 GW of rooftop solar capacity by 2026-27. This capacity is expected to generate around 1,000 billion units of clean electricity and reduce an estimated 720 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over its lifetime.
By making solar adoption simpler and more transparent, the new digital platform is expected to promote household-level energy self-reliance and accelerate India’s transition towards cleaner, decentralised power generation.
