Amaravati, August 3 (APAC Media): Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for and inaugurated development projects worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh.
These projects span sectors including semiconductors, renewable energy transmission, airports, and national highways. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening the state’s industrial ecosystem, improving connectivity, and supporting India’s clean energy transition.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Rs 5,700 crore Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, marking a significant milestone in the state’s aviation infrastructure.
Andhra Pradesh’s first semiconductor manufacturing facility
A key highlight of the visit was the foundation stone laying for the Rs 460 crore ASIP Semiconductor Project in Visakhapatnam.Â
The facility, being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in partnership with APACT, Republic of Korea, is the first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh approved under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The project is expected to manufacture around 96 million semiconductor chips annually while fostering a strong ancillary ecosystem to support India’s growing semiconductor industry.
Strengthening renewable energy infrastructure
The Prime Minister also launched major power transmission projects to facilitate renewable energy integration into the national grid.
These include the foundation stone for the Rs 5,550 crore Transmission System for the integration of the Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-I (4.5 GW), being implemented by POWERGRID through a Special Purpose Vehicle.
Additionally, he inaugurated the transmission system for the Kurnool Wind Energy Zone and Solar Energy Zone, developed at a cost of around Rs 3,550 crore, along with the transmission scheme for the Solar Energy Zones in Ananthapuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), implemented at a cost of over Rs 820 crore.
The projects will enable efficient evacuation and transmission of renewable power across the country through the National Grid, while supporting India’s decarbonisation goals and reducing dependence on fossil fuel-based electricity generation.
Highway projects to improve regional connectivity
The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone for National Highway projects worth over Rs 1,880 crore. These include greenfield four-lane highways on NH-365BG connecting Recherla, Guruvaygudem and Devarapalle, the four-lane Tadipatri Bypass on NH-67, and a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona-Yerpedu section of NH-565.
The highway projects are expected to ease congestion in Vijayawada and surrounding cities, improve road safety, reduce travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, and enhance regional connectivity across Andhra Pradesh.
