New Delhi: Riding high on the educational reforms that the Delhi Government initiated in the past few years, the Arvind Kejriwal led Government is now going to have its own school education board. Approval for the formation of Delhi Board of Education was passed during the cabinet meeting.
Delhi chief Minister said that the national capital like other states will also have its own school education board.
Kejriwal said that 20-25 schools will be included in the education board in the academic session 2021-22. In all, there are close to 1,000 government schools and above 1,700 private schools in Delhi. Most schools are affiliated to the CBSE.
Explaining the plans for the future, Kejriwal said that in the next four years, he hopes that schools would voluntarily get affiliated to the Delhi Board of Education. The Delhi administration plans to hold talks with school heads and senior teachers for the change over from CBSE to Delhi Board.
The Delhi Board of Education will comprise two bodies and would be headed by a CEO.
One will be the governing body which will be chaired by Delhi’s education minister and the other will be the executive body which will look after the day-to-day functions.
Kejriwal added that both the governing and the executive body will have experts from the education sector, bureaucrats, and principals of both government and private schools.
Last year, the Delhi government had constituted two committees to prepare the scheme and framework for the formation of the state education board.
