
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced that over 48 lakh rural families of the state will be provided pure drinking water supply through free tap connections by the end of year 2023.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, so far 5 lakh 66 thousand houses have been equipped with tap connections and remaining houses would be provided the tap connections soon. Rs 850 crore has been earmarked in the state budget.
More than 22 lakh families would be provided water supply through tap connection this year. Chief Minister was addressing a virtual program held for bhumipujan of 658 works worth Rs 238 crore 56 lakh 86 thousand in 16 districts under Jal Jeevan Mission, at his residence office in Raipur.
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, not only the households, but also the schools, Anganwadi centers and public places would be equipped with proper safe drinking water supply arrangements. Baghel asked the officers to plant trees in rural houses and nearby places, as per the availability of vacant land, so that the waste water from households can be used for irrigating the trees and plants.
Simultaneously, soaking pits should be made in the houses and if the lanes of the village are wide, then arrangements for drains should also be made. Public Health Engineering Minister Guru Rudrakumar said that so far administrative approval of Rs 3499 crore has been given for 7162 schemes, under Jal Jeevan Mission, for supplying clean drinking water through tap connections to the rural families in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Subrat Sahu, Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, Director of Jal Jeevan Mission S Prakash, Chief Engineer, T.G. Kosaria was present. During the program, Jal Jeevan Mission beneficiaries, MPs, MLAs and public representatives from different districts of Raigad, Kanker, Bijapur, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Raipur also expressed their views and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister for arrangement of drinking water through household tap connections. Chief Minister Baghel interacted with the beneficiaries of Jal Jeevan Mission in various districts.
