5C Network inaugurated the 5C Academy, which focuses on delivering advanced practical training for radiographers and radiologists. The need for this type of institutionalized, professional training stems from the fact that in the radiology domain,
which is constantly seeing technological and domain advances, there has long been felt a need for a forum that can help radiographers and radiologists stay up to date on domain knowledge, learn new best practices, benefit from the experience of domain experts, and also get mentored on improving their own skills on the job.
Dr. Chandramouly M, MBBS, DMRD, DNB-RD, chief radiologist of 5C Network, will serve as dean of 5C Academy. Dr. Chandramouly has worked in radiology for almost three decades. The academy is launching the world’s first certification program for working radiographers who specialize in CT and MRI scans. Participants will attend interactive workshops on CT and MRI best practices with live case demos as part of the curriculum. The workshops will be followed by question and answer sessions as well as assessments to verify that each module is well understood. When completed, each module provides one credit to the participant. The 5C Academy will provide a Diploma in Practical Radiography to the participant if they successfully complete all of the modules.
Kalyan Sivasailam, Founder and CEO, 5C Network, said, “In this specific certification program designed primarily for radiographers, we aim to make available to the participants the latest and the best practices that are critical for high-quality imaging using the existing equipment. This will help radiographers not just to better understand the radiologists’ perspective, but also enable them to generate better scans, eventually delivering better patient outcomes. Not to mention the opportunity to pave the path for professional and career growth.”
The 5C Academy is the next step in the evolution of the long-running Masterclass for Radiologists, the 5C Radiology Academy of Informatics and Specialist Education (RAISE) – an ongoing, globally-acclaimed advanced radiologist training program offered by 5C Network and led by Dr. Vimal Raj, renowned cardiothoracic radiologist and chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging for the Narayana Health Group in India. Discussing the issue at hand.
Kalyan added, “There is a massive asymmetry in the Indian radiological ecosystem with roughly 13,000 radiologists to 1.3 billion people, while we are doing over 1,00,000 scans a day. With over 80,000 radiographers who are the first line of defense for radiology, it is critical that they are empowered with the right techniques, best practices, and most importantly the ability to think on their feet to take adequate, accurate, and actionable scans. So, while 5C Academy’s empowerment approach allows a significantly increased career growth for radiographers, it aims to reduce the rate of misdiagnosis in radiology which is at about 10 percent currently.”
