The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a letter requesting higher educational institutions (HEIs) and their affiliated colleges to encourage students to register themselves on the FIT INDIA website.
The FIT INDIA portal was developed by the ministry of education for all students and staff of HEIs to have physical and mental fitness along with emotional and intellectual well-being. Students and staff are encouraged to update dates related to fitness activities conducted at different points.
The FIT INDIA movement was launched on National Sports Day on August 29, 2019 by prime minister Narendra Modi with the aim to make fitness an integral part of daily lives of Indians. The primary objective of the movement is to bring visible behavioral changes and move India towards a physically active lifestyle.
The objectives of the FIT INDIA mission
- Promotion of fitness as an easy, fun and free activity.
- To spread awareness on fitness and various physical activities that promote fitness with various campaigns.
- Encouragement of indigenous sports.
- To make fitness reach every college, university and educational institution.
To create a platform for Indians to share information, drive awareness and encourage sharing personal fitness journeys.
Under this initiative, the fourth edition of Fit India school week is underway from November 15 to December 15, 2022. All schools are encouraged to celebrate their annual sports events during the Fit India school week.
