Chandigarh: In a major revamp of the parking management system in Chandigarh, all the paid parking lots will be connected with the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and Police Command and Control Centre (PCCC), paving the way for smarter and secured facilities for commuters. Monitoring of vehicles, multiple options of entry and exit in the lots, facilities of Fastag and QR code, data analysis, ticketing, pre-booking of the lots, facility of ticket through dispenser, problem area and their removal are some of the key features of the new paid parking policy of the Chandigarh municipal corporation.
The policy has been prepared keeping grievances of the public in mind and the intention behind it is to provide hassle-free parking services in future to commuters, official sources said. The policy will also be used for data generation for further policy matters regarding improvements in the parking facilities. The request for proposal (RFP) in this regard will be discussed in detail before the technical committee of the Chandigarh administration led by the adviser to the administrator on Thursday.
All the senior officers of the Chandigarh administration will attend the meeting on RFP. If all goes well, the municipal corporationwill float the tender by the end of the next month to hire a private contractor to run the paid parking lots of the city with new features, which will be mostly technology driven. There will be other options for the common public, who are not very tech savvy. “Since the Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) is working on this parking project, the key idea behind this exercise of RFP is to provide the facility using technology, which people can avail to get the better services.
The MC will install the cameras in all the paid parking lots at both entry and exit points for constant monitoring of the vehicles. Since the access of the paid parking lots will be with the ICCC and PCCC, the generation of data and vehicles from all the lots and their constant monitoring will be the most crucial part in the entire exercise,” sources said. “The data will also enable the MC and UT authorities to know exactly in which areas, locations and sectors paid parking lots of the city are heavily packed. Accordingly, decisions will be taken in future to decongest lots or find other solutions,” sources said.
