New Delhi: The average annual highest average salary in India stands at ₹18,91,085, with the most common earnings being ₹5,76,851, according to the Average Salary Survey figures as of July 2023. There is a notable difference in salaries between men and women, as men receive an average salary of ₹19,53,055, while women earn an average salary of ₹15,16,296. These figures reflect the existing gender pay gap in the country.
Average Salary Survey collects and analyses salary data from thousands of individuals from 138 countries around the world. For highest average salary in India, the information provided is derived from an analysis of 11,570 salary surveys.
Among various career fields, Management and Business emerges as the highest-paying profession, with an average income of ₹29,50,185. Following closely behind is the field of Law, where professionals earn an average income of ₹27,02,962.
Additionally, the level of experience plays a significant role in determining earning potential. Individuals with 20+ years of experience command an impressive salary of ₹38,15,462.
Employees with 16-20 years of experience earn a respectable salary of ₹36,50,647, showcasing the financial rewards that come with years of dedication and skill development in their respective fields.
Also, the more educated you are, the more likely you are to get a higher salary. People with doctoral degrees earn the highest salaries ( ₹27,52,407 on an average) while people below High School degrees earn ₹11,12,499 on an average.
In terms of average annual salaries in cities, Solapur emerges as the city with the highest figures, standing at ₹28,10,092, as per the Average Salary Survey. However, it is to be noted that only two people were surveyed in the city.
Mumbai, where 1,748 people were surveyed, follows closely behind with an average annual salary of ₹21,17,870, reflecting the financial opportunities available in the country’s bustling financial capital.
Moving to the southern region, Bengaluru, known as India’s Silicon Valley, boasts an average annual salary of ₹21,01,388 with 2,799 people surveyed.
Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, offers an average annual salary of ₹20,43,703, reaffirming its position as a major economic hub and a centre for various industries. The number of people surveyed in the city was 1,890.
Heading towards the eastern part of the country, Bhubaneshwar showcases an average annual salary of ₹19,94,259. Jodhpur, located in the western state of Rajasthan, has an average annual salary of ₹19,44,814, reflecting the economic dynamics and employment opportunities in the region.
In Pune and Srinagar, the average annual salaries are reported to be ₹18,95,370. Hyderabad, a city known for its thriving technology and pharmaceutical sectors, has an average annual salary of ₹18,62,407, highlighting the employment prospects and compensation levels in this southern metropolis.
Average salaries as per designation
There were 59 CEOs who were surveyed and the average annual salary turned out to be ₹60,48,703. Directors earn on an average ₹58,50,925, General Managers ₹42,35,740 and Computer Architects ₹33,37,499.
Among 60 accountants surveyed, the average stands at ₹7,91,111. Lecturers earn ₹8,15,833 on an average, architects and Mechanical Engineers ₹10,13,611 and Web Developers ₹11,53,703.
Average salaries across states
When it comes to average monthly salaries across different states in highest average salary in India, Uttar Pradesh takes the lead with an average salary of ₹20,730, as per data from Statista. UP is closely followed by West Bengal, where the average salary stands at ₹20,210. Maharashtra, one of the most industrialised states in the country, comes in third with an average salary of ₹20,110.
Moving down the list, Bihar ranks fourth with an average salary of ₹19,960 while both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh share the fifth position with an average salary of ₹19,740. These states demonstrate a relatively lower average salary compared to the top three.
Tamil Nadu secures the seventh spot with an average salary of ₹19,600. The state of Karnataka, known for its thriving IT industry, follows closely with an average salary of ₹19,150. Gujarat comes next with an average salary of ₹18,880.
