Guwahati: A funding of Rs 3,000 crore was approved by the Assam cabinet, on Monday, for the construction of a 1,000-km-long economic corridor project in the state, under the Asom Mala Scheme, Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah informed. The project received in-principle approval from the cabinet.
Projects worth Rs 950 crore were also approved by the Cabinet, keeping in mind the improvement of rural infrastructure. This fund will be procured from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) as a loan and will be utilised for the upgradation of 90 rural roads and four rural bridges under the Public Works Department (PWD), Baruah further said.
A decision was also made about cabinet meetings which are now to be held in November and December in Tinsukia and North Lakhimpur districts, respectively. Nagaon will hold its meeting in January next year.
The minister also allotted an expenditure limit of Rs 5 lakh for cabinet meetings to deputy commissioners, along with the instructions to not undertake any new repair works of circuit houses and inspection bungalows for the purpose.
To declare the 1 km radius around Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary in Tinsukia as an eco-sensitive zone, a revised draft notification was also approved by the cabinet. This notification came as a response to a Supreme Court directive.
The cabinet granted approval for the allocation of a plot in Kaziranga to construct a judicial guest house for state guests and guests of the Gauhati High Court. Additionally, the cabinet endorsed an extra Rs 11.91 crore to ensure the timely completion of the new office building for the Commissioner of Taxes, as stated by Baruah.
