New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently made the decision to start additional train operations throughout its network starting October 25, 2023. These special services are part of the various initiatives being taken by the Delhi government to address pollution as part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-II stage.
The DMRC has added 40 extra train journeys on weekdays, Monday through Friday, across its various routes starting today from October 25, until further notice. Normally, the DMRC operates more than 4,300 train journeys daily.
Currently, DMRC provides services in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, and Gurugram, organised into 10 corridors, including the Red Line (Line 1), Yellow Line (Line 2), Blue Line (Line 3 and 4), Green Line, Violet Line, Pink Line, Magenta Line, Grey Line, Airport Express Line (Orange Line), Rapid Metro (RMGL), and Aqua Line.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital saw a slight improvement on Tuesday, though it still falls within the “poor” category. On Sunday, the city’s air quality had deteriorated to “very poor” for the first time since May this year, primarily due to a decrease in temperature and wind speed, leading to the accumulation of pollutants.
This initiative has been designed to encourage a greater use of public transportation among passengers in the Delhi-NCR region.
