New Delhi: V Chandrasekhar, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer hailing from the Gujarat cadre, has been designated as the Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to an announcement from the Personnel Ministry released on Wednesday.
The government circular stated, “The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the proposal of the department of personnel and training for induction of Shri V Chandrasekhar IPS (GJ:2000) to the post of Joint Director, CBI for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Ministry conveyed this decision to the concerned authorities on November 7.
V Chandrasekhar, a senior IPS officer from the 2000 batch, has previously held various roles within the Central investigative agency. His recent assignment is being attributed to his prior service at the Central agency in the capacities of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Superintendent of Police.
Formerly, he had served as the Inspector General of Police in the Ahmadabad range.
