Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation on Sunday, signalling the conclusion of the Mahagathbandhan government. Kumar is now set to establish a fresh government in collaboration with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the swearing-in ceremony anticipated later in the day.
Accompanied by senior minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor senior minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar at Raj Bhavan in Patna. The Governor accepted the resignation, designating Kumar as the interim Chief Minister until the formation of a new government.
In a prior meeting of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] legislators, Nitish Kumar was elected as the party’s Legislature Party leader, setting the stage for the political transition.
Speaking to reporters outside Raj Bhavan, Nitish Kumar explained, “I have resigned as CM today and have asked the Governor to put an end to this government. Party leaders had been giving me advice, and having heard that advice, I decided to resign.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Nitish Kumar, extending congratulations following his resignation.
As the leader of JD(U), which was previously in a coalition with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, Nitish Kumar is expected to collaborate with the BJP to establish a new government in Bihar. Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled for approximately 4 pm on Sunday.
