Guwahati: The Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, recently revealed that Assam will soon house its inaugural semiconductor packaging plant, a project valued at nearly Rs 25,000 Crore. He made this announcement during the inaugural Digital India Future SKILLS Summit held in Guwahati.
Talking about the collaborative effort between the Assam Government and the TATA Group, Chandrasekhar praised the leadership of CM Hemanta Biswa Sarma for spearheading the initiative. He highlighted the significance of enabling young Indians to pursue careers in the semiconductor industry without leaving their home state.
The summit, aimed at fostering future-ready talent, featured speakers from companies such as NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, HCL, Wipro, and IBM. Minister Chandrasekhar stressed the importance of acquiring skills like AI, cybersecurity, and semiconductors, emphasising the abundance of job opportunities awaiting skilled individuals.
Furthermore, he outlined the government’s strategic approach to shaping the future of technology through initiatives like futureDESIGN, futureLABS, and futureSKILLS. Minister Chandrasekhar said, “FutureSKILLS is bringing a world of opportunities for young Indians to seize, succeed and pave the way for creation of a talent pool that will power the future of tech.”
Addressing the audience, Ganesh Gopalan, CEO and Co-Founder of Gnani. AI, expressed optimism about India’s potential as a hub for AI companies, citing the vast job opportunities emerging in fields like cybersecurity. Similarly, Ruchir Dixit, Vice President & Country Manager at Siemens EDA, highlighted the urgent need for skilled workers in the electronics industry, presenting a significant opportunity for Indian talent.
The summit also witnessed discussions on key themes such as Semicon India, IndiaAI, Cyber Security & Emerging Technologies, and Digital India’s Talent for the Global Workforce. Additionally, strategic collaborations were forged between NIELIT and industry giants like Intel, HCL, Microsoft, Kyndryl, among others, to bridge the gap between academia and industry standards.
