New Delhi: The Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCI) in Visakhapatnam, the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai (IIT Chennai), and the Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai, have signed an MoU to launch a joint M.Tech program in ‘Dredging Engineering’.
According to a statement, this collaboration aims to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the maritime sector and foster the development of high-quality talent.
The program structure entails two semesters of coursework amounting to approximately 110 credits, followed by onboard and landside training for dredging projects in the third semester. The final semester involves project work within any of the participating institutions.
The coursework includes both mandatory and elective courses. Students commence their studies at IIT Chennai before moving to IMU in Visakhapatnam/Chennai for the second semester. The third semester involves practical training at DCIL, while the fourth semester allows students to select the location for their master thesis.
The initiative is jointly managed by the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras (IITM) and the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at IMU, in collaboration with DCIL.
The MoU exchange took place in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, during a stakeholder’s meet at the C. Subramaniam Auditorium, Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
