Bengaluru: In response to the ongoing water scarcity in Bengaluru, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has implemented a series of strict regulations. The use of drinking water for non-essential purposes such as car washing, gardening, construction, and recreational activities is prohibited.
Under the authority granted by the BWSSB Act of 1964, the board has mandated that cinema halls, malls, and other establishments restrict the use of drinking water solely for consumption purposes. Violations of these directives will result in fines, starting at Rs 5,000 and escalating for repeat offenders.
The decision comes as the city battles with severe water shortage, accelerated by failed monsoons and rapidly diminishing groundwater levels. Residents have been encouraged to report any infractions by contacting the BWSSB helpline at 1916.
