New Delhi: The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $170 million loan to strengthen India’s health system for future pandemics. This funding will bolster disease surveillance, enhance health professional standards, and promote climate-resilient healthcare infrastructure.
The loan will support the ‘Strengthened and Measurable Actions for Resilient and Transformative Health Systems Programme’ (SMART Health).
Key initiatives include:
- Improved Disease Surveillance: Establishing infectious disease lab networks and data systems.
- Enhanced Health Workforce: Legislative reforms for healthcare education and standards.
- Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: Developing green health facilities and critical care hospital blocks.
The program aligns with India’s National Health Policy 2017 and Ayushman Bharat initiatives.
