New Delhi: Godfrey Phillips India has appointed Charu Modi as the Executive Director (ED) of the company.
The nomination of Bina Modi as managing director and her daughter Charu Modi as executive director for a period of five years was approved by the GPI board of directors and was put to a vote during the AGM. At a meeting on August 7, Samir Modi was dismissed from the Godfrey Phillips India board after other directors refused to support his reappointment. The firm nominated Charu Modi, Samir and Lalit Modi’s sister and Bina Modi’s daughter, in his place.
This decision comes from an ongoing family conflict. The late K K Modi, who passed away in 2019, left behind a corporate empire with holdings in tobacco, direct selling, 24/7 retail, cosmetics, agrochemicals, and education. His children are Charu, Samir, and Lalit.
