Gurgaon: Malaysia Airlines is expanding its presence in India, focusing on non-metro cities and increasing the number of flights to Ahmedabad and Trivandrum. The airline, which currently operates 71 weekly flights connecting nine Indian cities to Kuala Lumpur, plans to double the frequency of its four weekly flights to these cities. The expansion aims to tap into the potential of non-metro routes, which face fewer restrictions on bilateral flying rights compared to metro cities.
Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), shared these plans during a press briefing. The airline also recently increased its Amritsar route to daily flights. Despite challenges such as supply chain and labor issues affecting global operations, Malaysia Airlines’ services to India will remain largely unaffected, according to Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail.
In addition to expanding within India, Malaysia Airlines is launching new international routes, including a Kuala Lumpur to Paris service in March 2025. Malaysia Aviation Group, the airline’s parent company, includes three key business segments: airlines, loyalty and travel solutions, and aviation services. Under its airline division are Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and AMAL.
