New Delhi: The Consumer Affairs Ministry is drafting a safety pledge to regulate e-commerce platforms and promptly remove unsafe goods. According to Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare, E-commerce companies will be required to recall any hazardous items within 36 hours of notification and cooperate with authorities in identifying the sellers of such products.
The draft is shaped by a committee including industry stakeholders, voluntary consumer associations, and legal experts. The panel is expected to submit its recommendations within two weeks. The government is also studying international safety practices from regions such as the European Union and Japan to enhance consumer protection on online marketplaces.
In a parallel move, the ministry is also working on guidelines to regulate advertising, with a dedicated committee in place to finalize those regulations.
