Mumbai: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed an MoU with Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) to establish India’s first green fuel ecosystem at Mumbai Port. The initiative is focused on promoting sustainable energy solutions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in maritime operations.
The collaboration, announced during the launch of the Cruise Bharat Mission, was formalized by BPCL Chairman and Managing Director G. Krishnakumar and MbPA Chairperson Rajiv Jalota. As part of the agreement, BPCL and MbPA will introduce electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Mumbai Port and explore converting diesel-powered vessels to cleaner fuel alternatives.
This move is in line with BPCL’s broader strategy to transition to greener energy by promoting alternatives such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other clean fuels. The partnership aims to reduce the carbon footprint of port operations and support India’s environmental goals.
BPCL has outlined its plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 in Scope 1 and 2 operations, with this collaboration being a step toward that objective. The agreement reflects BPCL’s effort to advance sustainable maritime fuel infrastructure while working with local partners to achieve these goals.
