Shimla: The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, has announced the state government’s plan to replace public transport buses run by Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) with electrical buses by March 2025. The initiative aims to cut on fossil fuel vehicles and instead introduce ‘green’ vehicles in public transport.
According to the CM, HRTC’s replacement with electric vehicles will also play a pivotal role in strengthening the financial conditions of the corporation. Besides upgrading the infrastructure, the government also previously introduced measures to ensure the welfare of the corporation’s employees. The CM stated that about 7,300 HRTC employees have benefitted from the old pension scheme (OPS), 1,546 contract employees have been regularised, and 608 new jobs have been created in the corporation. In addition, 550 more positions are in the process of being filled.
