Kochi: Kerala’s electric vehicle numbers are rising fast, with registrations approaching the 2-lakh mark. Currently, the state has 1,83,686 registered EVs, with over 54,000 added this year alone, marking a significant shift toward sustainable transport.
The numbers highlight a striking change compared to 2020, when only 1,368 EVs were registered. Now, EVs, including cars, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, have become increasingly popular among residents, and experts expect the total to cross 2 lakh by the end of the year.
With this growing demand, carmakers are planning to expand their EV options in India. Hyundai is set to roll out four new models by 2025, beginning with the Creta EV, while Mahindra will launch the XUV e8 this year and the XUV e9 in April. In the two-wheeler market, TVS is preparing new electric models.
Kerala’s shift to EVs reflects both consumer interest and a push for greener transportation.
