Chennai: Switch Mobility Automotive Ltd. and Vertelo have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to deploy 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) across India within the next 3-5 years. This collaboration is aimed at addressing issues such as urban congestion, air pollution, and climate change by integrating electric vehicles into commercial fleets.
Switch Mobility, a global manufacturer of electric buses and light commercial vehicles (eLCVs), will supply EVs for leasing under this partnership. Vertelo, a fleet electrification platform, will manage the leasing and funding of these vehicles, enabling operators and corporates to transition to EVs without the burden of high upfront costs.
The MoU highlights the growing focus on sustainable transportation in India, where electrification of commercial fleets is seen as a critical step in reducing carbon emissions. By leveraging Vertelo’s fleet leasing model, Switch Mobility plans to expand its reach to businesses looking to adopt EVs while addressing financial and operational challenges.
Switch Mobility CEO Mahesh Babu noted that the partnership is not just about vehicle sales but also about enabling businesses to adopt sustainable transportation solutions. Similarly, Vertelo CEO Sandeep Gambhir emphasized that the collaboration aims to remove traditional barriers to EV adoption, such as high initial investment and operational risks, by providing flexible leasing options.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of accelerating EV adoption and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. It also reflects the increasing role of private partnerships in driving the transition to sustainable mobility solutions.
By targeting commercial fleets, the partnership seeks to create a scalable model for EV deployment, which could have long-term implications for India’s transport sector and urban infrastructure.
