New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched the Momentum 2.0 Delhi Sarthi app, introducing a digital-first approach to metro travel with QR-based ticketing and other commuter-friendly features.
Key Features of Momentum 2.0 App
- QR-Based Ticketing:
Commuters can use their smartphones to generate QR codes for ticketing, eliminating the need for physical smart cards or tokens. The app allows recharges through UPI, debit cards, or credit cards, without requiring a minimum balance, unlike traditional metro cards.
- Real-Time Travel Information:
The app provides live updates on train schedules, metro station maps, and navigation assistance, helping passengers plan their journeys efficiently.
- Locker Rental Services:
A new feature lets commuters rent lockers at select metro stations to store personal belongings securely during travel.
Additional Services
Apart from ticketing, the app integrates several other services:
- Booking bike taxis, including women-specific bike taxis.
- Purchasing IRCTC train tickets and event tickets.
- Mobile recharge options.
- Light entertainment through in-app games for passengers.
How to Use the App
The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Users can create an account using their mobile number, recharge their digital wallet, and generate QR tickets for entry and exit at metro stations.
Impact on Commuting
With the Momentum 2.0 app, DMRC aims to reduce dependency on ticket counters and physical cards, streamlining metro operations while improving passenger convenience. As QR-based ticketing gains adoption, it is expected to ease congestion at stations and provide a more efficient travel experience for Delhi-NCR commuters. This initiative reflects DMRC’s broader push toward digitization in public transportation.
APAC News Analysis
The launch of the Momentum 2.0 app by DMRC is a definite game changer in Indian urban transportation. On the tech front, the app aligns with global trends in smart mobility. At the same time it respects local sensitivities like women specific bike taxis and local rentals. APAC News strongly recommends other Metros across India to replicate apps similar to Momentum 2.0.
