Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has signed an MoU with Jio-bp and EVI Technology to develop electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across five green corridors in the state, aiming to advance its green energy goals. The agreement was formalized in Shimla on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu overseeing the proceedings.
Under the MoU, Jio-bp will work on developing the Mandi-Jogindernagar-Pathankot and Kiratpur-Manali-Kelang corridors. EVI Technology will handle the Parwanoo-Una-Sansarpur-
As part of the initiative, the government plans to provide charging facilities for electric buses, trucks, and other vehicles along these corridors. Public facilities such as restrooms and restaurants will also be developed. The companies will pay the state Rs 75 lakh annually as part of the lease agreement for these sites.
The state’s efforts align with its target to transition Himachal Pradesh into a Green Energy State by 2026. The government is also planning to gradually replace the Himachal Road Transport Corporation’s fleet with electric buses. According to Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, the state transport department has already set a precedent by becoming the first in India to operate a fully electric fleet.
Officials highlighted that the green corridors aim to encourage private EV adoption and reduce carbon emissions, contributing to a sustainable transportation system. The state government is also in the process of procuring 350 electric buses to support its shift toward clean energy.
This initiative forms part of the broader push for environmental sustainability and aligns with Himachal Pradesh’s goals to position itself as a leader in green energy and electric mobility in the country.
