Hyderabad: In a significant development for Telangana, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to expand its data centre infrastructure in Hyderabad by investing Rs. 60,000 crores. The agreement was finalized during a high-level meeting between Telangana’s delegation, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, and senior AWS executives at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The investment will strengthen AWS’s presence in Telangana, with plans to establish additional data centres in Hyderabad. This expansion is set to reinforce Hyderabad’s position as the leading hub for data centres in India. D Sridhar Babu stated that this move solidifies the city’s status as the undisputed leader in the data centre space. Additionally, it reflects growing global confidence in Telangana as a business destination, attributing it to the efforts of the state government over the past year.
Michael Punke, Vice President of Global Public Policy at AWS, emphasized Telangana’s importance as a key part of the company’s India operations strategy. He highlighted the state government’s proactive policies, which have created an ideal environment for data centre development.

A History of Transformational Partnerships
AWS has been a longstanding partner in Telangana’s digital transformation journey. The company previously announced a USD 4.4 billion (Rs. 36,000 crore) investment to enhance its cloud infrastructure in the state by 2030. With three operational data centre sites already established in Telangana, representing an investment of $1 billion (approximately Rs. 8,000 crore), AWS’s latest commitment marks a significant leap forward.

To support this phase of expansion, AWS requested additional land, which the state government has agreed to provide promptly.
