Prayagraj: To enhance the experience of millions of pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Esri India has introduced a GIS-based Webapp. Designed to offer seamless navigation and real-time information, the Webapp is available in both Hindi and English and does not require logging in or downloading as it is directly accessible at kumbhlocator.esri.in.
Features of the Kumbh Locator Webapp
The Webapp provides detailed information about key facilities and services at the Kumbh Mela, including accommodations, snan ghats, parking spaces, roads with live traffic updates, weather conditions, and entry and exit points. It also highlights locations for lost and found centres, e-rickshaw stands, police stations, fire stations, and hospitals, ensuring pilgrims have access to essential resources.

Users can also mark locations of events and activities, enhancing their experience further. Additionally, the Webapp integrates ArcGIS Story Maps to showcase important temples and tourist attractions in Prayagraj, adding a cultural and historical dimension to the pilgrimage.
Simplifying Navigation and Ensuring Safety
Spread across over 4,000 hectares along the riverbank, the Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to host over 40 crore visitors between January 13 and February 26, 2025. On the first day alone, approximately 1.65 crore devotees gathered at the Sangam for the holy dip on Paush Purnima.
Agendra Kumar, Managing Director of Esri India, emphasized that the Webapp is designed to provide all necessary information in one place. He stated that its aim is to empower pilgrims to navigate the sprawling Mela easily, access key locations, and stay informed about available facilities, enhancing both safety and convenience.
GIS Technology for a Better Pilgrimage Experience
GIS technology plays a pivotal role in improving large-scale events like the Kumbh Mela by offering interactive and real-time mapping solutions. Esri India’s Webapp leverages this technology to help worshippers focus on their spiritual journey without logistical concerns.
