New Delhi: In a significant move, IAS officer Kamal Kishore Soan has been appointed as the Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. His appointment comes at a crucial time when the mission strives to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs).
An officer of the 1998 batch from the Jharkhand cadre, Soan brings with him a wealth of administrative experience and a proven track record in managing large-scale government initiatives. Over his career, he has served in various capacities, displaying strong leadership and implementation skills. He is currently serving as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, is one of the flagship programs of the Government of India, focusing on ensuring water security and sustainability through the conjunctive use of surface water, groundwater, and rainwater harvesting. With Soan’s appointment, the mission is expected to gain further momentum in reaching underserved rural areas and enhancing community participation in water management.
His leadership is anticipated to streamline operational challenges and accelerate progress toward meeting the mission’s targets. As the country moves closer to realizing its water accessibility goals, Soan’s strategic expertise is expected to be instrumental in driving impactful outcomes.
