New Delhi: Bharat Forge’s subsidiary, Kalyani Powertrain, is set to enter India’s server market through a partnership with US-based Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
The collaboration, announced on February 24, aligns with India’s push for indigenous data infrastructure and high-performance computing solutions.
Focus on Domestic Manufacturing
Kalyani Powertrain plans to manufacture servers using AMD’s EPYC™ processors, known for energy efficiency and security features. The servers will cater to industries such as automotive, telecom, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). The company also plans to integrate AMD Instinct™ accelerators in the future to enhance AI and high-performance computing capabilities.
AMD will provide design collateral and technical support to help Kalyani Powertrain develop these servers to meet global standards. The partnership is expected to contribute to India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative by promoting local production of critical IT infrastructure.
Despite the collaboration announcement, Bharat Forge’s stock hit a 52-week low on February 24. The stock declined by 1.84% to close at Rs 1,039.7 on the BSE, extending its two-day losing streak amid broader market volatility.
Industry Perspective
Vinay Sinha, AMD Corporate Vice President, Sales – India, stated that the integration of AMD EPYC processors and future use of Instinct accelerators will support India’s AI, cloud computing, and data centre infrastructure.
The partnership comes as India strengthens its focus on self-reliance in technology manufacturing. With an increasing demand for data centre solutions, the move could help reduce reliance on imported hardware while strengthening India’s digital infrastructure.
