Kandhamal: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kandhamal district administration in Odisha to launch a healthcare initiative aimed at combating tuberculosis (TB) and sickle cell anemia. This project, part of MCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program under the ‘AAROGYA’ theme, seeks to enhance healthcare services and improve public health in the district.
A Commitment to Public Health
The MoU, valued at Rs. 7.02 crore, was signed by MCL’s General Manager (CSR) Bichitrananda Behera, and Kandhamal’s Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer Santosh Kumar Padhi. The signing took place in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Ramesh Chandra Jen, Deputy Manager (CSR) Arabinda Sahoo, and other dignitaries.
Key Focus Areas of the MoU
As part of the initiative, MCL will implement targeted healthcare interventions, including:
Tuberculosis Control: Screening, early detection, effective treatment, improved healthcare infrastructure, and awareness programs to reduce stigma.
Sickle Cell Anemia Management: Increasing awareness, enhancing screening services, strengthening healthcare facilities, and supporting affected individuals and families.
Impact and Implementation
The project will benefit the entire Kandhamal district, providing essential healthcare services over a three-year period. Key components include:
Screening services and lab consumables
Specialized health center units and medical equipment
A dedicated healthcare vehicle
Food baskets for 7,200 TB patients
