New Delhi: As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KPIT Technologies to promote hydrogen-based mobility in Kerala.
The partnership aims to deploy fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) and establish Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in Kochi and Trivandrum, supporting the country’s transition to sustainable transportation.
The MoU was formalized at an energy summit in Kochi, where Ranjan Nair, Business Head – Renewable Energy, BPCL, and Ravi Pandit, Chairman – KPIT Technologies, signed the agreement in the presence of senior government officials from Kerala and the Central Government.
Accelerating Hydrogen Mobility in India
The collaboration between BPCL and KPIT will enable the development of a clean and safe hydrogen-powered transport ecosystem. The newly established HRS stations will fuel pilot programs aimed at testing the feasibility of hydrogen-based public transportation. This will mark a significant step in reducing carbon emissions and promoting green mobility solutions in India.
Strengthening India’s Green Energy Ambitions
BPCL’s HRS units will produce high-purity green hydrogen, ensuring a reliable and efficient energy source for fuel cell buses. Meanwhile, KPIT Technologies’ indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cells will be tested in real-world conditions to enhance performance and efficiency.
By integrating locally developed electrolyser and fuel cell technology, this initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, laying the foundation for a robust hydrogen mobility ecosystem in India. The project is expected to pave the way for large-scale hydrogen adoption in India’s public transportation sector.
